Your Yellow Book Refund Checks Issued by FTC

unpaid overtimeEarlier in July, the Federal Trade Commission  (FTC) announced that the agency is in the process of issuing refunds to companies who lost money because of the Your Yellow Book directory listing scam. Once received, business and business owners will have until Sept. 14, 2015, to cash these Your Yellow Book refund checks.

Your Yellow Book, an Oklahoma City based company, was recently charged by the FTC for allegedly cheating small businesses and other institutions out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. According to the agency, Your Yellow Book illegally charged doctors’ offices, religious schools, retirement homes, and various small business across the United States for an online listing of their business on the “yellow pages” online directory.

Back in August of last year, the FTC ordered that Your Yellow Book Inc.’s operations be halted immediately pending a federal litigation concerning the company’s alleged practice of charging businesses and other organizations for unwanted “yellow pages” online directory listings.

According to the FTC’s complaint against Your Yellow Book (or YYB), the company would allegedly fax invoice-like documents with the easily recognizable “walking fingers” image associated with Yellow Pages to consumers, businesses, and organizations with which YYB had no prior existing relationship. The YYB documents faxed to consumers asked them to verify or update their current information for their listing on YYB’s Internet business directory and requested that each consumer or business pay $487 for the listing.

The FTC states that many of these consumers paid the listing fee, believing YYB’s faxes and claims that their business or organization had willing agreed to be listed on the online directory. Additionally, some of these consumers were informed that if they wished to cancel the listing, they would have to pay a fee to do so.

The FTC’s YYB complaint specifically names Your Yellow Book , as well as individuals Brandie Michelle Law, Dustin R. Law, and Robert Ray Law as defendants in this YYB directory listing scam. YYB and the other defendants have been charged with violating the FTC act by misrepresenting a preexisting relationship with the consumers, businesses, organizations, etc. and for claiming that these consumers agreed to buy a YYB directory listing and owed YYB compensation for this listing.

Since the initial filing of the Your Yellow Book directory listing scam lawsuit, the case has been resolved and consumers who were cheated into paying this listing fee to YYB should expect to find a refund check in the mail soon.

The Your Yellow Book Directory Listing Scam Lawsuit is Federal Trade Commission v. Your Yellow Book Inc., et al., Case No. 5:14-cv-00786-D, in the U.S. District Court  for the Western District of Oklahoma.
