Almost 30 plaintiffs have banded together to file a consolidated Cymbalta lawsuit in California federal court.
The Cymbalta lawsuit alleges that the antidepressant caused personal injuries and damages that the drug’s manufacturer failed to fully warn doctors and consumers about.
Plaintiff Katryna W. and 28 other named plaintiffs filed the Cymbalta withdrawal lawsuit against pharmaceutical manufacturer Eli Lilly and Co., alleging that Eli Lilly did not provide sufficient warning about the possibility of Cymbalta withdrawal syndrome.
What is Cymbalta Withdrawal Syndrome?
Since 2004, Cymbalta (also known generically as duloxetine) has been FDA-approved to treat depression. While some patients have found success in managing their depression symptoms with the drug, others have experienced severe withdrawal symptoms when trying to discontinue their antidepressant treatment.
Some known symptoms of Cymbalta discontinuation syndrome include:
- Severe nausea
- Vomiting
- Dizziness, light-headedness, vertigo
- Headaches
- Hot and cold flashes
- Mood swings, anxiety, irritability, hostility
- Nightmares
- Brain “zaps” (electric-shock-like sensations in the brain)
- Paresthesia (sensation of tingling, tickling, prickling, pricking, or burning of a person’s skin)
- Tremors, shaking hands
- Visual disturbances
Cymbalta Lawsuit Allegations
Katryna and the other plaintiffs filed their California Cymbalta withdrawal lawsuit in December of last year. The plaintiffs hail from numerous states and make similar allegations, but this is not a Cymbalta class action lawsuit.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that the Cymbalta Withdrawal side effects caused physical, emotional, and psychological injuries, leading to a decreased enjoyment in life.
The plaintiffs have also allegedly incurred a number of medical bills and expenses. Those with spouses claim they have endured a loss of spousal intimacy.
The Cymbalta withdrawal lawsuit seeks relief in the form of compensatory damages (which will cover both economic and non-economic losses), future damages caused by permanent injury, compensation for psychological trauma, payment for pain and suffering and punitive and exemplary damages.
The Cymbalta Withdrawal Lawsuit is Case No. 1:15-cv-01484-RLY-DML, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
