Verizon New Jersey Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that alleges it improperly charged customers for the installation of certain network interface jacks. If you were a Verizon New Jersey customer and were charged for the installation of certain network interface jacks between Jan. 1, 2007 and May 18, 2014, you may be entitled to a refund from the Verizon class action settlement.
A network interface jack is the jack on the wall into which Verizon customers plug in their landline phones. According to the Verizon class action lawsuit, charges for the installation of the network interface jacks should only have been imposed if a customer specifically requested the jack, and no other billable work was performed at the same time.
“Verizon routinely and deliberately charges new customers for the installation of a network interface jack when no such jack is in fact expressly requested,” plaintiffs Julia Enerson alleges in the Verizon class action lawsuit. “Additionally, Verizon routinely and deliberately reuses an existing jack and charges the customer for the installation of a new jack even though no new jack was actually installed.”
Verizon New Jersey denies all of the allegations in the network interface jack class action lawsuit but agreed to a settlement in order to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.
Class Members who wish to object to or opt out of the Verizon class action settlement must do so no later than March 4, 2016.
