A Florida resident recently filed a Lipitor diabetes lawsuit against Pfizer Inc., after allegedly suffering from Lipitor side effects including a diagnosis of type-2 diabetes.
According to the lawsuit, plaintiff Linda S. began taking Lipitor in October 2002 at the direction of her doctor. Linda continued taking Lipitor through April 2012.
Linda was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes on March 14, 2014. Her Lipitor lawsuit alleges that this diagnosis is a direct result of Linda taking Lipitor for a number of years.
Linda’s Lipitor lawsuit further claims that Pfizer Inc. failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community about the drug’s potentially dangerous side effects, including diabetes.
Because of Pfizer’s actions, Linda claims, she has suffered from physical, emotional, and economic harm.
By filing this Lipitor side effects lawsuit, Linda seeks financial compensation for her emotional and physical pain and suffering, as well as punitive damages against Pfizer.
Linda S. filed this lawsuit on multiple counts, including negligence, design defect, fraud, and loss of consortium.
Lipitor Background
Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium), manufactured and sold by Pfizer Inc., is one of the most popular heart disease medications available.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved Lipitor for the treatment of heart disease in 1996. After its release, Lipitor rapidly became a best-selling drug.
Lipitor Diabetes
Lipitor diabetes research has shown that the risk of developing type-2 diabetes is greater for women taking Lipitor than it is for men taking Lipitor.
Though there is an alleged elevated risk involved in taking the drug for women, the benefits of Lipitor are also fewer for women than they are for men.
A study published by the University of Massachusetts Medical School looked at records of 150,000 women taking Lipitor over a period of several years. The study found that post-menopausal women taking Lipitor were almost 50 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those who did not.
Lipitor Diabetes Lawsuits
Plaintiffs involved in Lipitor side effects lawsuits often allege that Pfizer failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community about the risk of type-2 diabetes associated with Lipitor prior to ingesting the heart disease medication.
If you were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after taking Lipitor or a similar drug, you may be able to file a Lipitor diabetes lawsuit.
Linda’s Lipitor Lawsuit is Case No. 2:15-cv-4790-RMG, in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, Charleston Division.
