Thousands of American consumers, especially women, have suffered from mild to extreme hair loss after using WEN hair products, according to reports.

The WEN hair products and their potentially devastating effects on its users’ hair have caused more than 17,000 American consumers to complain directly to the marketing firm associated with the product, Guthy-Renker.

According to WEN class action lawsuits, while these complaints have come rushing in, Guthy-Rinker has been conducting a number of safety studies for the WEN hair products.

However, the results of these safety studies have not been disclosed to either the public or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to a report by the Environmental Working Group.

The WEN class action lawsuits alluding to these safety studies came into play during a WEN hair loss class action lawsuit against Guthy-Renker.

While the knowledge of what is contained in those safety studies would be a great help to consumers, companies like Guthy-Renker are not required to reveal customer complaints or studies about personal care products. This leaves both consumers and the FDA out of the loop as to what exactly personal care products contain — and the dangers they may pose to the public.

Currently, a bi-partisan bill called the Personal Care Products Safety Act has been proposed to fix this loophole. The bill would require that cosmetics makers like Guthy-Renker disclose the product ingredients, as well as report customer complaints of adverse health events to the FDA.

Companies would also be required to supply the FDA with any internal studies that show the potential health effects of their products. This would allow the FDA to recall dangerous products, as well as to demand specific labeling to warn the public of potential side effects.

WEN Hair Loss

Wen Hair Care is a hair product line endorsed by many celebrities. It was created by LA hairstylist Chaz Dean. However, its products have been accused of damaging and destroying hair – hair loss and damage that persisted even after they stopped using the product.

A group of some 200 women filed a hair loss lawsuit against Guthy-Renker last month, alleging that the product caused severe hair loss. The lawsuit was accompanied by a whirlwind of social media posts, including photos of the damage the products allegedly caused.

A spokesperson for WEN has responded, saying, “We test all our products, as do all reputable companies. As we’ve said before, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to suggest that Wen products can cause hair loss.”

However, some consumers are on edge because of the company’s decision to not reveal the results of their internal safety studies.

Many consumers are saying that FDA regulations regarding hair care products may be in need of an update to prevent this kind of damage in the future.
