Kombiglyze XR Side Effects May Include Thyroid Cancer

Kombliglyze LogoKombiglyze XR is an incretin mimetic medication used to successfully treat type 2 diabetes, but the drug may actually be linked with severe and dangerous Kombiglyze XR side effects such as thyroid cancer.

Kombiglyze XR (made with saxagliptin (brand name Onglyza) and metformin hydrochloride) is used to help control high blood sugar in type 2 diabetes patients.

Kombiglyze, along with Onglyza, belongs to a class of drugs known as incretin mimetics. These drugs simulate the production of insulin in order to regulate proper blood sugar levels. Incretin mimetics are a relatively new class of drugs, but experts are now trying to determine the kinds of Kombiglyze XR side effects that may put patients at risk.

Kombiglyze and similar drugs are very new to the diabetes medication world, so there is currently very little information about the long-term side effects of these drugs.

Kombiglyze cancer, including thyroid cancer, is a slow-growing cancer that can take many years to develop, and may only be discovered in the later (and more dangerous) stages.

The FDA has already received reports regarding Kombiglyze cancer and Onglyza cancer from patients taking these and similar drugs.

Reports such as these do not definitively prove that Kombiglyze and Onglyza are the actual causes of thyroid cancer, but they are certainly cause for concern and warrant further investigation as to the long-term side effects of Kombiglyze and similar drugs.

Kombiglyze Thyroid Cancer Symptoms

It is important to recognize thyroid cancer symptoms, especially for users of Kombiglyze or a similar incretin mimetic drug when these drugs may be potential causes of thyroid cancer.

Thyroid cancer symptoms include:

  • Changes in voice
  • Neck swelling
  • Respiratory problems
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Lymph nodes that are enlarged or painful
  • Lumps or nodules on the lower front or center of the neck
  • Coughing or hoarseness that are unexplained

While these may not seem like serious symptoms, Kombiglyze patients especially should be aware that these may indicate thyroid cancer and be especially cautious, reporting these symptoms to their physician.

Kombiglyze Cancer Lawsuits

A number of patients who have taken Kombiglyze, or a similar incretin mimetic drug, have begun filing lawsuits against the drug’s manufacturers for failing to adequately warn the public and the medical community about the risk involved in using these drugs. Plaintiffs claim that these medications being considered as potential causes of thyroid cancer and other dangerous Kombiglyze XR side effects should come with a stronger warning.

Kombiglyze lawsuits allege that the drug’s manufacturers either knew or should have known about the increased risk of thyroid cancer and other side effects associated with this and similar drugs.

If you or someone you know has suffered from thyroid cancer or other serious Kombiglyze XR side effects after using Kombiglyze or another similar drug, you may be able to take legal action.

Filing a Kombiglyze cancer lawsuit may not fix the damage, but plaintiffs find it can help to alleviate the physical, emotional, and financial losses felt as a result of using Kombiglyze.

In general, Onglyza lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
