WEN hair products are currently mired in a storm of customer outrage.

According to Buzzfeed, hundreds of people have joined a WEN class action lawsuit after the hair products allegedly made their hair fall out. In fact, more than two-hundred women have joined the WEN class action over these allegations.

Similar sites like The Daily Beast, as well as mainstream news outlets like Fox News have also picked up on the story.

WEN hair products sell for as much as $30 per bottle and are endorsed by celebrities like Brooke Shields. The WEN hair products line is owned by the same company that makes Proactiv, and uses similar marketing.

Various WEN hair products boast a following among celebrities, and the company cleared $100 million in sales in 2010 per Forbes Magazine. WEN has stated that they have sold more than 10 million units since 2008.

This was the second year the company marketed these products. WEN hair products are promoted as natural and that they have the ability to strengthen hair. But social media networks such as Facebook have accounts of customers who allegedly experienced hair loss after using WEN hair products.

Some public posts include women who were too depressed to leave their homes after alleged hair loss from WEN hair products. Others include customers who purchased WEN hair care products as gifts and now want to return them over concerns about hair loss.

People have posted pictures of themselves with large patches of hair missing, alleging that the damage was caused by WEN hair products. Some have speculated that the alleged WEN hair products clog pores or contain a compound that damages hair. Among the public Facebook comments are hair stylists who’ve heard complaints from clients using WEN.

The various reports of hair loss after using WEN hair products state that some women have lost hair several weeks after starting to use WEN hair products, loss that continued for several weeks after they stopped using WEN.

Some of the plaintiffs in the WEN lawsuits have claimed severe hair loss, and some of the plaintiffs are representing minors who allegedly suffered the same from WEN hair products.

The WEN hair products lawsuit also alleges that the makers of WEN should have been aware of the problem from social media posts about alleged WEN hair loss, such as the posts on Facebook.

The makers of WEN have argued that there is no scientific evidence that there is a specific ingredient in WEN hair products that can cause hair loss. According to a statement from WEN:

“Importantly, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to support any claim that our hair care products caused anyone to lose their hair. There are many reasons why individuals may lose their hair, all unrelated to WEN hair care products. We intend to vigorously contest the allegations made against our products.”
